The StyleCraft Guide to 2017 Home Design Trends

January 24, 2017

Part of building and maintaining a home that will Live Up is incorporating the latest and greatest home design trends into your living room, kitchen and beyond.

The right trends elevate your home’s aesthetic, add comfort and convenience, and even save money. They’re also a way to flex your creativity and show off your contemporary style when you’re entertaining family and friends.

So, we developed a list of the top home trends of 2017 — emerging design choices we suspect will stick around longer than carpeted bathrooms and wood-paneled walls. The best part? We’ve stayed ahead of the trends by integrating these styles and selections into our homes.

So take a look, and see what the future of home design looks like…

1. Flow with the grain

Whether we’re talking about a handmade dining room table set or hand-me-down hutch, wood is best in its natural state. There are a few ways to achieve and maintain this classic and inviting look. Natural wood finishes are great for adding a bit of warmth and texture to cabinetry and furniture. Then there is a technique called “cerused,” which includes applying a higher-end finish that draws out the wood’s natural grain to produce a look that feels both casual and elegant. If you want a closer look at natural and cerused wood furniture, swing by one of our decorated model homes.

2. Marvel at Marble

Marble is eye-catching in the kitchen and bathroom, exhibiting a uniquely clean and classic look. But maintaining marble countertops can give you that sinking feeling. Marble-quartz offers the same style without the added upkeep. Plus, it’s gaining lasting popularity as a countertop as well as a key material in accent furniture and occasional tables. See marble-looking quartz on display in the decorated model homes at the Landing at Swift Creek (kitchen and master bath) and Harper’s Mill (kitchen).

3. Rock metal finishes

The best trends stick around for a while, creating lasting appeal. Such is the case with satin brass finishes, which have become extremely popular for lighting, hardware, and even furniture. If you love the look but want to design to your own beat — or simply avoid an overly matched look — try metal finishes. These finishes amplify visual interest and create a look that’s all your own, such as black with brass and polished nickel with brass. You can find mixed metal finishes (polished nickel and bronze) at the Landing at Swift Creek’s decorated model home.

4. Go with green

Green is going to set the mood in 2017 — lots of moods. This versatile color can refresh any room when incorporated as subtle touches, as illustrated by Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year, “Greenery.” But deep and lush greens can cast a cozy and warm luxe look, whether they’re painted on walls and cabinetry or incorporated into larger upholstery pieces. See how StyleCraft has livened up the scene at Cambria Cove with green shades at our decorated model home in Section 2.

5. Up your home’s IQ

Smart home innovation continues to evolve before our eyes. High-tech products aimed at enhancing home security to dialing in just the right temperature are getting smarter, cheaper, and more popular. StyleCraft Homes has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to outfitting your home with cutting-edge convenience, with features such as our USB-enabled outlets, one of our Live Up features.

6. Find a tile for any style

Subway tiles are riding a wave of momentum into 2017. And there a lot of good reasons for their popularity. Not only do they offer a clean and classic look, but they’re easy to match to your kitchen, no matter how custom or exotic the decor may be. Plus, you can pretty much name your price and find the right tiles for you. Subway tiles can be found in a number of StyleCraft homes, including our Woodside Estates decorated model home.

As we’ve mentioned, all of these home design trends are on display throughout our StyleCraft Homes communities. Seeing is believing, so to learn about how you can bring these trends into a StyleCraft home, call us at 804.523.HOME.
