How to Design an Owner’s Suite That Relaxes, Refreshes & Recharges

How to Create a Serene Owner's Suite

August 6, 2024

We spend a lot of time talking up how our community amenities actively bring neighbors together. We glow when discussing how we’ve been able to balance convenience and privacy when planting the flag for a new community. And we gush over floor plans ideally staged for entertaining family and friends.

We make it easy to do a lot in our communities and our homes.

But sometimes you want to do… nothing. With all of this swimming, strolling, wining, and dining comes some much needed downtime. And there’s no better place to unwind, relax, and recharge than your StyleCraft Owner’s Suite.

It’s a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a sanctuary of self-care, and a refreshing oasis overflowing with possibilities. Or least it should be.

In any StyleCraft floor plan, you’ll find that our Owner’s Suites are already designed with comfort, convenience, and luxury in mind — including a private bath, spacious bedroom with walk-in closet, and plenty of room for storage, a sitting area, and more.

But how do you take this space from being flush with potential to actually elevating your everyday living? Don’t worry, we have you covered with top tips from our home design experts

Don't Sleep on Style

Here’s some pro advice: even though every guest isn’t going to get a peek at your Owner’s Suite, don’t stray too far from your overall home’s aesthetic.

One best practice to follow, especially if you’re split over a couple different design directions, is to start with the color scheme and work from there. Remember, this is the place you want to catch some shut-eye, whether it’s a mid-afternoon power nap or a 12-hour slumber with the black-out curtains drawn. Light, neutral colors can help create a calm, relaxing vibe. Gray is a great go-to, and if you have ideas on other areas palette, opt for lighter shades.

Cut Down on Clutter

It starts with a stray sock. Soon empty Amazon boxes take up one corner of the room and everything you’re going to return from them takes up another.

It’s clutter. And while no one plans on accumulating it, stuff just tends to pile up. But clutter doesn’t belong in your oasis, your retreat — and certainly not your sanctuary.

That’s where storage comes in. Thanks to the included, spacious walk-in closet in your StyleCraft Owner’s Suite, you have a solid defense for much of that potential clutter, from shoes and clothes to luggage, and yes, those future Amazon returns.

One way to keep your closet (and style) fresh is to do an annual or even seasonal purge — tossing out, recycling, and donating your stuff before it becomes clutter. Another pro tip: add bins and other storage accessories inside or even outside your closet to keep you organized and clutter-free.

Finally, survey the furniture in your Owner’s suite. Is a chair really a coat rack? Can you jettison an Ottoman or unused bedside table? Get rid of what’s not working — and free up your mind and bedroom to Live Up as the Owner’s Suite you deserve.

Find the Perfect Furniture

As we just mentioned, with too much furniture in your Owner’s Suite, it can feel like a cramped maze, making you that thing that goes bump in the night. To little furniture, and you could find your bed becoming everything from your desk to kitchen table.

It’s about finding the right amount of furniture with the right style and features to make your Owner’s Suite truly a place that Lives Up during downtime.

So, on that note, start by thinking about a couple of comfortable chairs to establish an inviting sitting area. This can be your ideal spot to enjoy a morning coffee, catch up on a good book, or even binge-watch that new true crime series. Another idea that can pack form and function is finding pieces, such as a bench or TV stand, that include plenty of built-in storage.

Of course, two of the hallmarks of your Master Suite will include your headboard and dresser. For both, remember to consider your overall design scheme, and carefully consider the materials they’re made of (while eyeballing your budget, too). For example, while a wooden dresser with clean lines can add warmth and texture to a room, a mirrored dresser can add glamour and sophistication.

Transform the Bathroom into a Spa

Your Owner’s Bathroom deserves the same thought and consideration as the entire suite. Here, you can create a spa-like atmosphere to pamper yourself, whether you’re seeking to elevate your morning routine or simply want a shower that rains down relaxation.

Start with the vanity, the hub and cornerstone of your bathroom. While some StyleCraft homes feature an include double vanity, others allow for it to be a structural option add-on. Either way, a second vanity provides more space and flexibility — especially when you’re sharing the bathroom and both getting ready on the clock. You can’t go wrong with granite, quartz or cultured marble.

As for the rest of the bathroom, a spa-like environment requires some attention to detail: sleek finishes that complement the flooring, countertops, and wall treatments. And don’t skimp on the shower; be sure to select tile that sets the mood you’re looking to create.

There are so many spaces throughout your StyleCraft home and community that are designed to help you be at your best as you move through your day. But, with the right approach to your Owner’s Suite, you can make sure that your downtime Lives Up, too.
