Meet Lance, StyleCraft’s Point Person for Mason Yards & The Outpost at Brewers Row
October 14, 2022
“One thing I find different and unique here at StyleCraft is that we get to learn not only from a book, but from the previous experience of others who have been in our shoes.”
MEET LANCE
In his role as Project Manager, Lance handles the day-to-day operations for our Scott’s Addition luxury condo communities, Mason Yards and The Outpost at Brewers Row. And in his first year on the job, Lance’s long list of responsibilities includes everything from coordinating our trade partners to managing the permitting process. When he’s not troubleshooting on-site, Lance enjoys going out to charity events and museums — essentially, learning and seeing things from a different perspective whether its current events or from the past.
DESCRIBE YOUR LIVE UP MOMENT — THE MOMENT YOU KNEW STYLECRAFT WAS RIGHT FOR YOU
I knew this was the right job for me when I noticed that everyone wants to help to solve problems whether they pertain to them or not.
DESCRIBE YOUR ROLE AND TYPICAL DAY AS PROJECT MANAGER
I mainly work out of an office trailer that is on-site full time. I feel that I can get computer-related work completed, but also If I need to step out to solve an issue or look at progress, I’m steps away. A bonus is that, not only is my field supervisor onsite, but the Project Manager is also on-site as well. This helps with the transfer of information and being available to review site conditions with trade partners.
A typical day’s duties could include material deliveries, scheduling of the work, and problem-solving issues in a timely manner to stay on schedule. I also handle the land and development side with getting the site ready to build on, utility pole relocations, site infrastructure work, new power design, and handling with the permitting process with the City of Richmond. On top of all that, I am training another Production team member, and working on a clubhouse design, pool design, and linear park on the site of Mason Yards.
A challenging aspect that stands out would be to have what you need to use during the construction process and keep the trade partners engaged. If you keep the partners focused and confident that you can keep the project moving steadily along, they will stay to get the work done.
YOU CAN NEVER SHOW UP AT STYLECRAFT WITHOUT...
I would say that one skill that’s critical to being successful at StyleCraft homes is to communicate and lean on your peers for help and or guidance. We’re a team and can only grow if we work together — like the quote, "You’re only as strong as your weakest link."
AND THE HIGHLIGHT IS...
Once drywall starts going into a home, that’s when that new home smell starts to take place. And once interior finishes are installed, you get to meet the new homeowners and welcome them to their new home — that's the highlight.
